PTA process is a high-performance thermal coating process. A high-energy plasma arc melts the base material’s surface. Simultaneously, metal powder is introduced into the arc, where it also melts. PTA allows for coating with high-alloy materials, e.g., tungsten carbide-reinforced nickel-based or cobalt-based alloys. The result is a material bond between the coating and the base body, with relatively low heat input. Consequently, the base body essentially retains its hardness during the coating process. This particularly strong and wear-resistant connection maintains the shape and sharpness of mulching flails over long usage periods. If the machine is used as intended, a service life extension by a factor of 3-5 can be expected.
